Late Winter Party: A Vintage Skirt Story

About 7 years ago I found this Kelly green shirt dress with a full skirt in a vintage shop here in Toronto. Judging from the label I guessed it's from the 60's. At the time it fit me perfectly. I'm a certified "pear shape", have been as long as I can remember, which isn't such a bad thing once you figure out how to dress it. Just forget about buying anything that comes in a two piece set. I wore this great shirt dress until one day my boobs decided to catch up with my hips and suddenly them buttons weren't doing up anymore. Instead of getting rid of the dress I decided to cut the top part off, re-sew the waist band and turn it into a skirt. Unfortunately I had just gotten my sewing machine, a graduation gift, and didn't really know what I was doing. The waist band never sat quite right so there it hung in my closet until a couple weeks ago when I sat down with my seam ripper and redid the whole thing like I should have. The snow has finally melted down below ankle level so I think tonight's the night I bust her out. With winter dragging on like this I seriously need a colourful pick-me-up in my daily ensemble.

Fire's Burning: Late Summer Night

I can't believe it's August already. The nights are going to start to get a little longer and cooler and it feels like the last couple of weeks to get in camping and cottaging trips. It also happens to be my birthday month. I'm not sure how I feel about birthdays anymore, I don't really wake up feeling differently the morning of although my mom tells me she still wakes up in the middle of the night "in labour". Child birth is so traumatizing, sorry mom. :p
I am a little sad that we're in the last month of summer even though I love the transition into fall. I feel like it's a great time to reflect on all the memories and moments of the months gone by. Maybe it's just me, but something always happens in the summer that changes me. Sometimes it's spiritually, sometimes it's physically. This summer I fractured a bone for the very first time! I have not fallen off my bike in 21 years so I guess I had some back log of bodily harm somewhere in the universe. Anyways, I guess I can tell that story another time.
Because I plan to post about fashion in this blog, I thought I would start off with a little Polyvore set I started a long time ago but never finished until today. I have a lot of spare time right now while I wait for my arm to heal and I can go back to work so I thought why not waste time in a super fun way. I would totally wear this comfy chic outfit to a campfire but usually I'm camping and all I have is sweatpants...a girl can dream.
